About Us

A Community Organisation, Not a Business

Halifax Dog Training Trust exists so that no dog in Calderdale is given up, rehomed or put to sleep because of fixable training problems. We work from Empire House on Mulcture Hall Road and out in the parks, streets and homes of Halifax.

  • Force-free, reward-based methods only โ€” no fear, no pain, no "dominance".
  • Low-cost and free places funded by donations and local supporters.
  • We partner with local rescues to support newly adopted dogs.
  • Every donation goes directly into training places, equipment and outreach.

"Our rescue lurcher was terrified of everything. After six sessions he walks through town like he owns it. We can't thank the team enough."

"The puppy course was brilliant โ€” clear, kind and actually fun. Our spaniel learned more in four weeks than we thought possible."

"They helped us when we were close to giving our dog up. The behaviour plan changed everything. This charity is a lifeline."

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you get in touch.

Is the training really free?

Many of our places are free or subsidised, funded by donations. Where we do charge, fees are kept low and every penny goes back into the organisation's work. We'll always tell you the cost โ€” if any โ€” before you commit to anything.

What areas do you cover?

We're based at Empire House, Mulcture Hall Rd, Halifax HX1 1SP and work across Calderdale and West Yorkshire โ€” including Huddersfield, Bradford, Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge, Elland and Hebden Bridge.

What training methods do you use?

Only force-free, reward-based, science-backed methods. We never use pain, fear, shock collars or "dominance" techniques โ€” they damage dogs and don't work long term.

My dog has serious behaviour problems. Can you still help?

Yes โ€” behaviour and reactivity cases are a core part of what we do, especially for rescue dogs. Leave your details in the form above and a trainer will call you to talk through what's happening and advise on the next step.

How can I support your work?

Donate, volunteer, or simply share our work. Visit our donations page to fund a training place for a family that couldn't otherwise afford one.
