Terms & Conditions

The rules for using this website, and the limits of the advice on it.

1. About these terms

These terms apply to your use of the Calderdale Lighthouse website. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Calderdale Lighthouse is a community dog training organisation based at Empire House, Mulcture Hall Road, Halifax HX1 1SP, United Kingdom. Registered charity number: [ADD CHARITY NUMBER]. Contact: [ADD CONTACT EMAIL].

2. The advice on this site is general

Our articles and guides are written to help dog owners in general. They are not tailored advice about your dog, and reading them is not the same as working with a trainer who has met your dog.

Every dog is different. What suits one dog may be wrong for another. You remain responsible for your own dog, for the safety of the people and animals around them, and for the decisions you make.

3. This is not veterinary advice

Nothing on this website is veterinary advice, and we are not veterinary surgeons. Sudden changes in behaviour are often caused by pain or illness.

If your dog is unwell, in pain, or their behaviour has changed suddenly, speak to a vet. Do not delay seeing a vet because of anything you have read here.

4. Safety

Some of the behaviours we write about — lunging, guarding, biting — carry real risk. If your dog has injured a person or another animal, or you think they might, get in touch with a qualified professional rather than working from an article alone.

You are responsible for complying with the law that applies to dog ownership in the United Kingdom, including the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

5. No guaranteed results

Training outcomes depend on the dog, the household, the history and the work put in between sessions. We do not guarantee any particular result, and you should be cautious of anyone who does.

6. Enquiries

Submitting the enquiry form does not create a contract between us, and does not reserve a place on any course. It is a request for us to contact you.

We aim to respond within one working day, but we cannot guarantee it. Availability of free and subsidised places is limited and changes over time.

Where costs apply, we will tell you what they are before you commit to anything.

7. Donations

This website does not take payments or donations online. Any information about supporting our work is for information only, and no payment is processed through this site.

8. Our content

The text, images and design of this site belong to Calderdale Lighthouse unless stated otherwise. You may read, print and share pages for your own personal, non-commercial use.

You may not republish our content, sell it, or present it as your own without our written permission.

9. Links to other websites

Where we link to another website, we do so because we think it may be useful. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

10. Availability

We try to keep the site available and accurate, but we do not promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change or remove content at any time.

11. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this website, or from acting on general information published here rather than seeking advice about your own dog.

If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

12. Privacy

How we handle personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when they were last changed.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
